Guam
We Made It!!!ššš
Third time’s a charm!! We made it on our third attempt to fly SpaceA to Guam. That’s pretty good during the summer season especially for a family of 5!! The flight was 8 hours and we again were able to camp out on the floor once we reached altitude. We made the mistake of heading to the back of the cargo hold where the cold air is piped in…….. luckily we had blankets but it was a colder than normal ride!!!
Megan was there to pick us up at the terminal. All the kids were excited to see each other and picked up from where they left off. The 1st blood incident was an hour in so not too bad!!! Vada & Ella reconnected their BFF hearts and Soren & the “come on boys let’s do boy stuff” played superheroes! Magnus is the cutest most chill baby, he’d have to be amongst these crazy 5!
A relaxing 1st morning with cousins
Amazingly fun day spent at Gab Gab beach, snorkeling, diving, paddle boarding, finding beach treasures. It was like swimming inside of an aquarium! We saw lots of sea creatures, octopus, sea cucumbers, parrot fish, blue star fish, crabs – it was feast for the eyes!
Wednesday Night is the Chamorro Market where we tasted BBQ chicken on a stick & Leif had BBQ squid, we watched native dancers, fireworks and the boys rode a Karaboa and held giant Coconut Crabs! Ella couldn’t hang and fell asleep in Magnus’ stroller!!!
We spent the morning at Talofofo Falls – it was where a Japanese soldier spent 28 years in hiding when America captured the island!! It was a hodgepodge of attractions, cable cars, stunning waterfalls & rope bridges, dodgy carnival rides, adult only statues and farm animals!! The kids had a blast!
Spent the afternoon jumping off heights into the Inarajan Natural Pools. Relaxing in the warm waters and discovering all the sea creatures in the tide pools.
This morning we headed out on ‘1000 Steps’ hike in Mangilo. It was a very scenic hike down to the water and it definitely got the heart pumping on the trek back up!
When Uncle Leif is here, he makes fish hooks and you get tatted up! Meet Maui from Moana aka Soren
We checked out Two Lovers Point – where years ago two young lovers jumped to their death because they were not allowed be together!
It was nicely overcast today but the views were still spectacular. We bought a heart and secured it to the side of the cliff! Lā¤L
We hiked through a little bit of Jungle to get to Tanguisson beach where we spent a little while, goggling looking for fish, finding sea glass and building a hermit crab colony.
You can take the girl out of Ireland but you can’t take Ireland out of the girl
Checked out the CG base in Guam………. tiny base in paradise- I could do it!
Spent the morning on a boat looking for dolphins and they didn’t disappoint š¬ š¬š¬ saw some flying fish on the ride and had a swim call over a reef where we snorkeled and saw a bunch more fish. The kids tried fishing but didn’t catch anything!
Seriously the best $50 ‘babysitter’ we have ever spent!! The kids had so much to keep them entertained all day, zip lines, lazy rivers, water slides, wave pools that they rarely checked back in with us as we enjoyed some yummy cocktails!!
he Latte of Freedom – Guam’s symbol of Freedom. A very cool structure overlooking the Asian and Agana bays with breathtaking views.
Stunning sunset last night. All the kids enjoyed ‘midnight’ swimming as the grown ups enjoyed some cold ones at the beach bar.
Today was Guam’s 73rd Anniversary of their Liberation from Japan so we went and watched their parade. As we were leaving we were asked to join a BBQ that a local family were having. We had a great afternoon visiting with them and eating great food – the Chamorro people are the most genuinely nice people I have ever encountered.
We had an authentic Guam experience when we hiked down to Pagat caves and got lost in the jungle……. twice!!! The caves were cool and some of the kids enjoyed swimming in the deeper parts. We hiked out to the cliffs for a spectacular view of the rugged coastline.
Another Day Another Beach – this time we spent the afternoon cooling off at the Air Force base beach, it had a playground and a beach bar with a view what more do you need?!
We spent the last few days in Guam just hanging out, eating out and laughing our guts out! It has been a trip of a lifetime and we are sad to be leaving but we will take all the memories with us as we try to head home via Space A at stupid a.m. tonight!!! Thanks Megan & Clinton for putting up with us for the last two weeks. Until next time Hafa Adai
Hafa Adai Guam – you were a trip of a lifetime.
